Blood Born by Matthew Warner

Matthew Warner, the author of The Organ Donor, Death Sentences: Tales of Punishment and Revenge, and Eyes Everywhere, brings us a new book that is sure to have you on the edge of your seat - Blood Born.

The Dirt
As for you, be fruitful and increase in number.

When a rapist stalks the nation's capital, Detective Christina Randall tries to keep an astounding clue from going public: all the victims become pregnant.

The latest victim is teenager Daniella Connolly. Her mother, Margaret, is a doctor at CalPark Fertility Clinic. But Margaret can't fathom the bizarre conceptions, either. Isolated in a special hospital ward, they all come to term in just one week.

Multiply on the earth and increase upon it.

Randall learns the rapes are connected to a series of missing-person cases. When a young woman disappears near CalPark — also home to a secretive research lab — suspicion falls on Margaret.

But soon, the rapist returns to claim his progeny. He is not really a he — but an "it." Worse, the children have appetites just like papa's.

Suck that Santa meat and help a kid this Christmas

What's better than a pristine field covered in freshly fallen snow?

That same field with snow stained red with blood ;o)

Ahhhh... nothing brings back those fond memories of Christmas' past like singing those old songs that get sung every year.

I saw Mommy eating Santa's brains
Underneath the mistletoe last night.
She didn't see me reach
for the pistol at my feet;
She was too busy slurping up
delicious Santa meat.

Here's an excellent way to get your zombie fix and feel good about it.

The proceeds from sales of The Undead That Saved Christmas will be donated to Hugs Foster Family Agency (hugsffa.org) so foster kids can have a happy holiday, too. It takes a big heart to open your home to a child that's not yours. Get a great book and help these families out at the same time.

Here's the dirt -

The Undead That Saved Christmas brings together various talented authors and artists from Great Britain, the United States and Ireland. Stories include The Magic of Christmas, by Rebecca Besser; Santa Claws is Coming to Town, by Calvin A.L. Miller II; Night of the Frozen Elf, by Richard S. Crawford; And to All a Good Fright by Stacey Graham; and many others.

The anthology also includes rich illustrations by David Naughton-Shires, Jason Tudor, Chris Williams and more. Another thing to expect in this anthology is a fun collection of holiday zombie-themed poems and carols. And to wrap things up there is an awesome assortment of original comics, from Mike Schneider, Nate Call, and many others.

Horror Hottie: Asia Argento

George A Romero's 2005 movie, Land of the Dead, had a lot going for it - Dennis Hopper, gun-wielding zombies, and lots of shock and gore... but the best thing about it was this week's Horror Hottie, Asia Argento.

No doubt about it. If the undead start to take over, I want this chick by my side.

Autobiography of a Werewolf Hunter by Brian P. Easton

Nietzsche once said, "If you stare at the abyss long enough, the abyss stares back at you." Well... maybe he said it more than once, but who am I to know that?

Anyway, the award-winning Autobiography of a Werewolf Hunter takes that concept and asks what happens when a hunter becomes as dark as the things he hunts. It's an interesting idea and the cover is an eye-catcher.

You can check out some reviews at SF Reader and The Harrow if you want to see what all the fuss is about. Apparently the original title was When The Autumn Moon Is Bright, but don't let that throw you.

Synopsis
It takes more than silver bullets to kill a werewolf...

Sylvester James knows what it is to be haunted. His mother died giving birth to him and his father never let him forget it; until the night he was butchered by a werewolf--the night a full moon ruined his life. Alone in the world, Sylvester is taken in by Michael Winterfox, a Cheyenne mystic. Winterfox, once a werewolf hunter, trains the boy to be a warrior--teaching him how to block out pain, stalk, fight, and kill. Bit by bit all that makes Sylvester human is sacrificed to the hunt. Now, Sylvester's hatred has become a monster all its own, robbing him of conscience and conviction as surely as the Beast's bite. As he follows his vendetta into the outlands of the occult, options become scarce. And he learns it takes more than silver bullets to kill a werewolf...

To kill a werewolf, it takes a hunter with a perfect willingness to die.

John Saul gets graphic

Horror writer, John Saul, and Bluewater Productions are transforming two of Saul's novels into graphic novels.

Says Saul, "I've often thought many of my novels would translate well into graphic storytelling. I also have original projects that have been conceived specifically as graphic serial novels. I am thrilled to be exploring all of these ventures with Bluewater."

So...which books are getting the graphic treatment? Glad you asked.

The Blackstone Chronicles
A vacant insane asylum is scheduled to be torn down and replaced with an upscale shopping mall. But the asylum won't fall so easily.

The God Project
There's a curse in the town of Eastbury, Mass. Something is taking the town's youngest children, one by one.

The God Project will be written by David McIntee - who has written authorized franchise novels for “Star Trek: The Next Generation”, “Dr Who” & “Space 1999”. The The Blackstone Chronicles will be handled by Tara Ooten & Nathan Ooten.

No word yet on when they'll be hitting the shelves but I'll be sure to share with you as soon as I dig up the dirt.

What's inside "The Gentling Box" ?

Sure, the author of The Gentling Box, Lisa Mannetti, was a finalist for the Bram Stoker Award for best first novel, but what really makes her interesting is her hobby - making macabre gothic greeting cards based on cemetery photos she takes.

The girl likes to hang around graveyards and take pictures? Ahhh... a woman after my own heart.

If you're into gypsy curses, ghostly possessions, and a woman chopping off her own arm then The Gentling Box is a must read for you.

Synopsis
The philosophies of the Age of Enlightenment create sweeping changes throughout 19th Century Europe, but to Hungary's despised nomads, the gypsies, the world is still a dark and very dangerous landscape. Adversaries both mortal and supernatural lurk in the shadows, waiting to strike without mercy. Imre, a half-gypsy horse trader, understands the danger to his small family all too well.

Cursed with a hideously-disfiguring and fatal disease by the vengeful sorceress Anyeta, he watches those around him suffer and fall. Mimi, his wife, who is tricked into cutting off her own arm to create a powerful talisman. His friend Constantin, struck mute by Anyeta's wrath. And Lenore, his and Mimi's young daughter, who has been placed in the greatest jeopardy of all. With his health deteriorating and death imminent, his wife possessed by the witch's ghost and Lenore being groomed for a fate far worse than death, Imre turns to desperate measures and a hellish memory from his childhood—to still the sorceress and end her reign of bloodshed. A presence even more powerful and terrifying to him than Anyeta: the gentling box.

What? Ya want to gripe about it being an old release? Blame it on the housekeeper, who's been missing for about a year now. No telling where that ol' bat disappeared to. She didn't even clean up the blood stains.

Anyway, I'll be digging up some fresh meat soon so check back later.

Darkchylde comes to life

Mmmm! Is there anything sexier than some sweet young thing transforming into a supernatural killer straight out of a nightmare? I thought not.

Darkchylde started out as a comic book with an edge in 1996. The dark style of the comic quickly set it apart from traditional titles like Superman and Batman, and made it a hit with female followers.

Now, John Carpenter is bringing the girl of your dreams (and every one else's nightmares) to the big screen, and the test footage alone looks totally kick-ass... and the babe, Renee Cataldo, isn't hard on the eyes at all.

You can get the full scoop on the comics at Darkchylde.com.

Horror Hottie: Kate Beckinsale

Long before sparkly vampires and mind-reading waitresses thrust vampires into the spotlight, Kate Beckinsale was suiting up in form-fitting leather and seriously kicking some vampire and werewolf butt. While she looks totally kick-ass in her Underworld outfit, she shows a sexy softer side in the pics below.
